What is an Affiliate program?

An Affiliate program is another name for ‘referral marketing’ or an ‘associate program’. It’s a business arrangement in which a merchant website pays someone a commission for referring customers to the merchant's site.

When that customer referred by you buys a product on the merchant’s site, the merchant pays you a specified amount per sale. It's a bit like being a commissioned sales person – but online.

For newcomers to Internet marketing joining a referral program is an excellent opportunity to get into e-commerce - a way to earn money online without having to produce your own product, and worry about making sales and delivery products or without even having your own website (even tho it can work even better if you do have one) but to get up and running it’s not essential (we’ll tell you how soon).

So how does Affiliate Marketing work?

When you join an affiliate program, you get access to ‘text links’, these text links have a hidden tracking system in them (which is unique to each affiliate member).

The Affiliate can copy and paste these text (hyperlinks) into emails, blog posts, forum posts, share them on social networking sites, or embed them into content on their own websites, basically you can promote them online anyway you can think of.

When someone else clicks on these links, they are redirected through to the merchant’s website, and the merchant’s site automatically records them as being referred by you, and if they make a purchase you get paid a commission, how simple is that!

It is unusual for web-visitors to make a purchase on their first visit to a site, so the merchant’s site is able to recognize visitors and link them to the referrer (Affiliate member) for a certain period, (in our case 12 months). So if any of the referred visitors from your affiliate links make a purchase at any stage within 12 months, the sale gets recorded against your name, and you get paid your commission, we think that’s pretty fair!

How much do I make?

PropertyInvestorCentre pays our Affiliate members 15% of the price of our products.

Now 15% doesn’t sound like much compared to other Affiliate Merchants that can pay up to 50%, but hang on a minute, we are not selling $69 e-books here, and we actually have to put our ongoing time into coaching our clients, so we simply can’t afford to give you half, sorry.

But have a look at the figures here, and you can see that you don’t have to generate too many sales to start earning a reasonable supplementary income, it all helps right.

We also pay out 15% commission on the monthly subscriptions to our e-Coaching program, thus giving you a reoccurring monthly income for the 12 month period of the program.

How are commissions paid to me?

We pay our Affiliates automatically via Paypal. If you don't already have a paypal account you can get one for free at www.paypal.com You then simply enter your paypal email address into our Affiliate system, and your commissions will be paid directly into your paypal account, you can then transfer the funds to your bank account.

Ok that sounds great, but I don’t have a website…

There are several different ways to promote your affiliate links without having your own website.

1.     Email Signatures – You can create a signature that appears on the bottom of every email you send. You would include a text link that would get peoples attention. I.e. Learn to be a Successful Property Investor from home with this online Mentoring program when people click this link they are taken to our website.

2.     Web forum Signatures – You could register for Property Investment Related web forums, and participate in the forum conversations, and set up a similar signature (as above) to automatically appear at the bottom of every post you make.

3.     Article submission – You could write articles rich with property investment related content, and have your affiliate text links embedded into the content, as well as at the end of the article. You then submit these articles to article submission websites. I.e. www.ezinearticles.com and www.articlebase.com

4.     Create your own blog – These days it is very quick and easy to set up your own blog site using the likes of www.blogger.com or www.wordpress.com . With a few easy steps you can have you own blog site up and running. You then make regular blog posts (rich with property investment related keywords and content) and you embed your affiliate links into the content every so often. This like the article marketing works well, as visitors are reading through your good content, and they click on a hyperlink mid sentence, and they are not feeling ‘pitched too’, it’s more of the subtle approach, and its proven to work better than using banner adverts in your blogs, of course you can always put the odd banner up as well.

5.     Pay Per Click (PPC) Advertising – You could set up and run PPC adverts on a search based online advertising network like Google adwords, http://adwords.google.com Google has changed the rules over the last few years tho, so you are no longer able to direct your adverts straight to the merchants (our) website. You will have to instead direct the traffic to your blog site (which has your affiliate links embedded in the content). PPC advertising can be expensive, but it can be also very effective for affiliate marketing. By selecting your ads wisely and bidding on the correct keywords you will be able to send lots of quite targeted traffic to your blog site and affiliate links.
